St. Vital Hearing Centre is a busy, well-established private practice hearing clinic in Winnipeg, Manitoba.  We are a full-service practice offering tests, assessments and hearing aids to citizens of Winnipeg and southern Manitoba since 1993.

 

We are looking for an energetic individual who can provide diagnostic and hearing aid related services to our primarily adult client base and assist in handling our growing wait-list.

 

Qualifications for Audiologist:

  • Master’s degree in Audiology
  • Eligible for registration with MSHA
  • Dispensing experience an asset although not required

 

Qualifications for Hearing Instrument Specialist:

  • Hearing Instrument Practitioner Degree

DESCRIPTION

The audiologist is responsible for the identification, assessment and (re)habilitation of persons with known or suspected hearing loss of all age groups.  In addition to direct client contact, the audiologist is also responsible for public education, professional education, hearing promotion/prevention activities, clinical research, and maintenance and calibration of clinical equipment.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES  

  • Provides comprehensive diagnostic evaluations for preschool children, school age children and adults referred to Audiology with known or suspected auditory dysfunction.
  • Provides supportive counseling to clients and/or their families regarding the nature of the identified hearing loss.
  • Selects, fits and verifies hearing aids for infants, preschool children, school age children and adults.
  • Fits and verifies FM Systems for children.
  • Serves as a consultant to the school divisions within the hearing centre’s catchment area for deaf and hard of hearing students.
  • Develops and participates in programs that address the (re)habilitative needs of the deaf and hard of hearing.
  • Facilitates/participates in collaborative decision making with clients, colleagues, (re)habilitation services and other professionals.
  • Participates in the planning, implementation and publication of clinical research and other academic pursuits.
  • Proposes, plans and assists in the implementation of new services and/or programs for Audiology.

 

QUALIFICATIONS  

  • Must have a Master’s Degree in Audiology from a recognized university.
  • At least one year’s experience providing audiological services for children and adults within a hospital, regional health authority or community facility.
  • Have current or be eligible for registration with the Manitoba Speech and Hearing Association.
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles, techniques, materials and equipment used in the diagnosis and treatment of hearing loss for infants, pre-school age children, school age children, adults and geriatrics.
  • Ability to organize and deliver an effective diagnostic and treatment program.
  • Ability to keep accurate reports and progress charts.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective communication with team members, clients and their families.
  • Ability to function autonomously and within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated awareness of audiology trends, current issues and research.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Have a valid driver’s license and vehicle.

 

This position is subject to a Criminal Record Check and a Child Abuse Registry Check. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred.
