Membership Application Information

To work in the province of Manitoba as an audiologist or speech-language pathologist you must be registered with the Manitoba Speech and Hearing Association. Please allow up to 6 weeks for your application to be processed. If you have any questions about the application process, please contact the MSHA Examining Committee through the MSHA office at office@msha.ca.

Section 1 - Student and Affiliate Membership

Bylaw 3(4)

  1. Student members are members who are studying speech-language pathology/audiology at a recognized facility.
  2. A student member is entitled to:
    1. attend general meetings of the Association;
    2. receive all publications of the Association; and
    3. work on a temporary basis under the supervision of a fully registered member, for the purpose of clinical practicum hours or research data collection for university credit.

Individuals obtaining clinical practicum hours or research data collection for university credit MUST have a MSHA student membership.

Effective January 1, 2009 there is no fee required for the Student Application Processing Fee to accompany the Student Application form.

Bylaw 3(5)

  1. Affiliate members are members who are any interested person but who may not practice speech-language pathology/audiology in the province of Manitoba and may not vote in association matters.
  2. An Affiliate member is a non-voting member who is entitled to:
    1. attend general meetings of the Association; and
    2. receive all publications of the Association

Affiliate applicants must submit the Affiliate yearly membership dues ($60.00 + $3.00 GST = $63.00 Canadian Funds) with their completed application.

Section 2 - Provisionally Registered Membership

A provisionally registered member has graduated from an accredited institution with a Masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Audiology.

Bylaw 3(3)

  1. Provisionally registered members are members who have met all the requirements of the Association and are working under the supervision of a fully registered member.
  2. A provisional registered member is entitled to:
    1. attend all Association meetings;
    2. receive all publications of the Association;
    3. vote on Association matters; and
    4. practice under the supervision of a fully registered member.

Individuals who are granted provisional registration must undergo a supervision period.

Application Information for Provisionally Registered Membership
If you meet the current requirements, please submit the following:
  • Application Processing Fee ($30.00 + $1.50 GST = $31.50 Canadian Funds)
  • Completed Application Form:  Application for Provisional Membership
  • Official transcript of Undergraduate academic course work with the official degree posted on the transcript, mailed directly to the MSHA office from the University or College
  • Official transcript of Graduate academic course work with the official degree posted on the transcript, mailed directly to the MSHA office from the University or College
  • Summary of signed Clinical Practicum hours completed
  • Completed "Criminal Records Search Certificate" check mailed directly to MSHA office, Attention: Examining Committee
  • Completed "Child Abuse Registry" check mailed directly to the MSHA office, Attention: Examining Committee

If your degree was not conferred before applying, you can request to have your Department chair to send a letter directly to MSHA stating that you have completed all of the academic and clinical requirements for graduation along with an "Unofficial Graduate Transcript" report print out to have an overview of your coursework to date. Please Note: You must still have your official transcripts forwarded to the MSHA office when your degree is conferred and the Official Transcripts are released from your University.

 




Section 3 - Individuals Applying under the Agreement on Internal Trade (AIT)

If you are currently registered to practice as an Audiologist or Speech-Language Pathologist in another regulated province in Canada you are eligible to apply for membership to MSHA under the Labour Mobility Act and Chapter 7 (Labour Mobility) of the Agreement on Internal Trade. If you are registered with one of the following regulated provinces, you may apply for Fully Registered Practicing (FRP) Membership with MSHA:  

  • Alberta College of Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA)
  • College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO)
  • New Brunswick Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (NBASLPA)
  • Ordre des Orthophonistes et Audiologistes du Quebec (OOAQ)
  • Saskatchewan Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (SASLPA)
  • College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals of British Columbia (CSHHPBC)

Application Information for Individuals Applying under Agreement on Internal Trade – Inter Provincial Labour Mobility Agreement (AIT)
If you are registered to practice as an Audiologist or Speech-Language Pathologist in another regulated province in Canada, please submit the following:
  • Application Processing Fee ($30.00 + $1.50 GST = $31.50 Canadian Funds)
  • Completed Part A of the Application Form for Inter-Provincial Mobility of Speech- Language Pathologists and Audiologists (to be completed by applicant).
    AIT Application Form Section A – Manitoba
  • Completed Part B of the Application From for Inter-Provincial Mobility of Speech- Language Pathologists and Audiologists (to be completed by your home jurisdiction and sent directly to MSHA).
    AIT Application Form Section B – Manitoba
  • Completed "Criminal Records Search Certificate" check mailed directly to MSHA office, Attention: Examining Committee
  • Completed "Child Abuse Registry" check mailed directly to the MSHA office, Attention: Examining Committee
  • Completed Practice in Manitoba Checklist

Photocopies of all graduate and undergraduate transcripts and clinical clock hours (to be requested by applicant from home jurisdiction and sent directly to MSHA).

 




Section 4 - Membership Information for Individuals Trained Outside of Canada or the United States (Foreign Trained)

A foreign trained applicant has graduated with a Masters degree or equivalent in Speech-Language Pathology or Audiology from an institution outside of Canada or the USA.

  • You must have one of the recognized Canadian credentialing agencies from the list below review your transcripts, at your expense, to establish that your training was equivalent to a Canadian Masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Audiology. They must then forward a "Masters equivalent coursework official report" sent directly from the Agency to the MSHA Office
  • Summary of Clinical Practicum Hours, signed by your supervisor(s) (photocopies acceptable)
  • Course description or syllabus describing the content of each course and the number of academic hours assigned to each course. This information will be used to help establish if your coursework was similar to that of a Canadian Masters degree.

If your documents are in a language other than English, please have them translated to English at your expense. Submit both the originals and the English translations. Foreign applicants must also meet Canadian immigration requirements. Applicants who have graduated from institutions outside of Canada and the United States of America may be required to write the Canadian Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (CASLPA) certification examination.


Section 5 - Individuals who are registered/licensed/certified in another jurisdiction and are entering Manitoba specifically for the purpose of teaching or conducting research

Registered Teaching/Research Members are Audiologist’s or Speech-Language Pathologist’s who is registered/licensed or certified in another jurisdiction, may be registered to practice in Manitoba for a pre-determined period of time, not to exceed one year. This registration is specifically for the purpose of teaching or conducting research and the teacher/researcher member may act only under the authorization/supervision of a MSHA member who is a fully registered practicing member (FRP).

A Registered Teaching/Research Member is

  1. a non-voting member
  2. is not required to complete CE
  3. receives all publications

  • Monthly Membership dues you plan on being registered with MSHA

  • Completed Application form: Application for Registered Teaching/Research Membership
